“I’ll be there for you (when the rain starts to pour)/ I’ll be there for you (like I’ve been there before)/ I’ll be there for you (cause you’re there for me too)”……….
The great thing about friends is that each friendship between the six is different. Here is what each friendship teaches/tells us about friendship.
Monica and Rachel
They’ve been friends since high school and they’re still friends now. Sure, they went their separate ways but when they came back together, it was like nothing had changed.
Whats great about the show is that it shows girl friendships at their best and shows that it’s not always sleepovers and boy talk there is also hardships of their relationships, including fights and falling outs. But in the end you and your best friend make it through.
Chandler and Joey
Chandler and Joey are the kings of bromance. The two go so well together, with Chandler being the more responsible adult with a boring job and Joey being more a wild child.
Chandler is able to bring Joey back to reality when he needs to and Joey helps Chandler to loosen up. These two bring out the best in each other. It’s clear that this friendship knows no bounds.
Phoebe and Joey
Phoebe and Joey had a pure friendship. It’s not the friend zone but just purely the friend. They never crossed that line unlike the other four. Phoebe and Joey had their own “dates”, in which they would discuss their other friends. They had their own nicknames for each other. They are a prime example of a guy and a girl that can be close friends and never date.
Chandler And Monica
Chandler and Monica are very different from Ross and Rachel from the get go Ross and Rachel had a romantic connection. these two from the get go were best of friends, they support each other no matter. They’ve seen to depend on each other a great deal as Monica helped him lose weight during season 2, reassured him that he wouldn’t die alone during season 1, comforted him about his crush on Kathy and gave him sex advice in Season 4. Chandler also apparently told her about his third nipple, and he was the only one who knew that it was her underwear on the telegraph pole outside the apartment. Chandler also comforts Monica when she’s upset, like when she discovered that Phoebe moved out or when she was upset about not having a child or a boyfriend in Season 3.
They’re so perfect together, in fact, that they fall in love and the natural progression from friends to lovers in season 5 didn’t seem forced by the writers due to their solid friendship in the first four seasons.
Rachel and Chandler
They share a close friendship, often consoling and confiding in one another. On one particular occasion, they share a stolen cheesecake with each other and conceal it from the others. Particularly in earlier seasons, they go out to lunch together a few times.
